Today the EFJ called on its affiliates to express solidarity with striking journalists in England.
Today and tomorrow the National Union of Journalists members at Coventry Newspapers in Britain are on strike as part of their campaign for fair pay. Although the Trinity Mirror’s group profits in 2004 were more than £200 million and chief executive Sly Bailey earned £1.05 million including bonuses last year, journalists of the paper earn less than the average UK wage and significantly less than colleagues working for other regional papers in the same area.
That’s why we are asking everyone who believes in fairness to send polite emails to [email protected] to point out the injustice of the situation outlined above.
