The director and founder of Noticias Xonoidag, a news website focusing on crime and political reporting, was found dead by the local police in the locality of Sonoyta, northern Mexico. He had been abducted the previous day from his car by unidentified individuals who forcebly took him out of the vehicle.

His family  initially reported him missing after failing to receive news of whereabouts before the police found his body a few kilometers from where he had been abducted.

On 1 May during the live broadcast of his programme on Facebook, Hernández denounced threats he had received threats on social media from people using fake identities.
