The acting editor of Dainik Kushtiar Khabar left his office on July 3 and told a staffer that he would return shortly. Rubel, who was also associated with the Bengali newspaper Amader Notun Samay and the online portal Crime Vision BD, did not return and his mobile phone was switched off. He was found dead in a river in the Kushtia district on 7 July.
