Union strengthening Policies Proposed: ANP, Peru The 24th Congress of the IFJ, meeting in Seoul from June 11-16th 2001, noting that the labor population of the world has entered the new millennium with the most high numbers of unemployment, labor market transformation and deepening of anti union practices that follow globalization of economy, believing it is indispensable to promote and support the union organizations, to deepen the principles of internal democracy, to promote constructive pragmatism and to create representative organizations of journalist workers agrees that is necessary and urgent to find new ways of union action and solidarity, to defend democracy and social justice. Congress determines a) to request the IFJ Secretary General to present an annual plan of union development and actions to strengthen unions of media workers, to the Executive Committee. b) to urge that the annual plan is supported by technical and legal means to defend social, economic and political rights of dependent and independent media workers, and defines strategic alliances with other labor sectors of media, that could contribute to make innovating social structures, in line with the principles set out in European works councils.
