IFJ appoints new Deputy General Secretary

The IFJ executive committee has appointed British journalist Tim Dawson as its new Deputy General Secretary. A former President and Vice President of the National Union of Journalists UK and Ireland (NUJ), Tim Dawson has been a member of his union’s national executive for more than 20 years.

He has negotiated with employers as diverse as Al Jazeera, The Guardian and the BBC.

Dawson is also an elected member of the Steering Committee of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ).

As a journalist, he worked for The Sunday Times for nearly 20 years, and has written for The New Statesman, Prospect, and People Weekly (US), among many other publications.

Dawson also convenes the IFJ’s Working Group on the surveillance of journalists.

He succeeds Jeremy Dear, who worked for the Federation for seven years.
