Check out the IFJ and its' affiliates' activites to mark World Press Freedom DayIFJ activities   WFPF, Riga, 2-4th May The IFJ will participate in the UNESCO Riga event on "Let Journalism Thrive! Towards Better Reporting, Gender Equality, and Safety in the Digital Age". It will run a special session on Regulation, Sustainable Self-regulation and Professional Standards. MoreDifference day, Brussels, 3rd May The IFJ and EFJ will partner with media and academic organisations, European and global institutions and foundations to organise the European Gala Night for Freedom of Expression in Brussels on 3 May int eh Frame of the “Difference Day” event. The Gala Night will present three awards: the Golden Pen Freedom Award at international level; the Press for More European Innovation in Journalism Award at European level and the VUB/ULB Honorary Doctorate for Critical and Constructive Contributions to Freedom of Expression at national level. More   Launch of the Stories women journalistsn Tell, Asia Pacific, 8th May The IFJ and the South Asia Media Solidarity Network (SAMSN) will launch The Stories Women Journalists Tell, a snapshot on the experience of women journalists in South Asia. MoreIFJ affiliates   Belarus   The Belarus Association of Journalists (BAJ) will hold an awarding ceremony of its yearly contest Volnaye Slova (Free Word) honoring best works in Belarusian mass media published in 2014. More Cambodia   UNESCO and the Cambodian Association for the Protection of Journalists (CAPJ) will  hold an event to mark World Press Freedom Day  and discuss Freedom of Expression around the world, the attacks on Charlie Hebdo and how Access to Information legislation can be more effective for journalists’ needs in Cambodia.  Buthan   The Journalist Association of Bhutan will organise the Annual Journalism Award 2015 to recognize and honor excellence in journalism. Twelve categories of awards will reward English newspapers, Dzongkha newspapers, Radio and Television. A life time award titled 'Jigme Singye Wangchuck Prestigious Journalism Award' will honor the distinctive contribution of a journalist.This is the first journalism award organized by the Journalists Association. More    Croatia   The Croatian Journalists' Association (CJA) will award the CJA journalistic prizes in several categories.   Gambia   The Gambia Press Union in collaboration with UNESCO and the OHCHR in Dakar will organised on 3rd May a symposium on Press freedom.   Indonesia   A number of events will be held from April 28, including a public discussion on Press Freedom in Papua, a public literacy event on Press Freedom is Own by Public and a public discussion on freedom and blasphemy. Irak The Iraqi Journalists' Syndicate will mark WPFD through a joint event with the UNESCO/Iraq office and the participation of the Human Rights Commission in Iraq. The celebration will comprise speeches by IJS president, UNESCO in Iraq and the representatives of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq and the Iraqi Commission for Human Rights. Key sessions will focus on professional journalism, media independence in the digital age, gender and the media, journalists' and digital safety. The IJS will also  launch its yearly report on press freedom in Iraq. Mongolia   The Confederation of Mongolian journalists will hold a series of activities around World Press Freedom Day including the first digital journalism forum of Mongolia, a roundtable “focus on Mongolia and a moment of silence to remember those who died at Chinggis Square. Montenegro    The Trade Union of Media of Montenegro will  organise a "Five Minutes of Roaring Silence" on May 3. At 11.55 all journalists will stop working for five minutes. The union will read out a statement and journalists will stand in silence contemplating sacrifices made in the name of free speech over the years.   Mozambique   The National Union of Journalists will hold a debate on “The state of freedom of the press in Mozambique” looking into professional issues as well as ethics.   Pakistan   An International Media Conference will take place from May 1-3 discussing all issues relating to press freedom and the media in Pakistan.    Norway   The Norwegian Union of Journalists will host a seminar on Press freedom on May 4 addressing the following topics: Presentation of cartoons drawn as a response to the Charlie Hebdo-attack;  Debate on the situation for press freedom in the Arabic world four years after the Arabic spring; Debate on the role of blasphemy in an open society. The seminar is launched in cooperation with UNESCO, Association of Norwegian Editors, Norwegian Press Association, PEN and Freedom of Expression Foundation. More   Sri Lanka The Free Media Movement together with the Sri Lanka Press Institute will organise an event to celebrate World Press Freedom Day on the 5th May 2015 in Colombo. The theme of the event is ‘Structural changes for Media Freedom” and a key note speech will be delivered by Mr. Vijayananda Jayaweera, former director of UNESCO international for development communication.    Turkey   The Journalists’ trade union of Turkey (TGS) will publish a paper (Arrested Gazette) produced by journalists prosecuted  in Turkey which will be distributed on the streets in 3 major cities, Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.
