Burundi: French and British journalists released

The French journalist and the British photojournalist who had been arrested on 28 January in the Burundian capital, Bujumbura, have been released. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ, representing 600 000 journalists across the world, joins its affiliates in France (SNJ, SNJ-CGT, CFDT-Journalistes) and Burundi (Union Burundaise desJournalistes) in welcoming their release. The African Bureau Chief of the French Daily, Le Monde, Jean Philippe Remy 49 and British Photojournalist, Phil Moore 34 were arrested on Thursday, 28 January, by the police as they reported on gunmen opposed to the government. They had been held in a secret location since then.
