Newsletter: Gender and Media Seminar in Argentina

On 4th and 5th September a seminar was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Gender and Media, in the framework of the triennial project for the promotion of gender equality through the activation of the Latin American journalism trade unions. Over the two days, the debate focused on the need to establish journalism with a gender perspective, analysing the presence of gender stereotypes and roles constructed in the media and observing the situation of violence and discrimination present in both the content of news bulletins and in editorials. It further highlighted the need to improve communication of trade union policies in terms of gender and to open gender secretariats in the trade union committees which do not yet have such a structure. At the end of the seminar, the Buenos Aires Declaration was drawn up, which sets out the points agreed upon by the representatives. More in Spanish Storify of the activity: goo.gl/HaAKf5
