What does a consumer expect of the Finnish Broadcasting Company? And a citizen?
Do we see the beginning of a new struggle on the statues and role of the Finnish Broadcasting Company? The objectives, funding and culture of public service broadcasting in a multi-channel era?

Presenters
David Puttnam has spent thirty years as an independent film producer. His films include Oscar winners like The Mission, the Killing Fields, Chariots of Fire and Midnight Express. He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Columbia Pictures from 1986 to 1988 - the only non-American ever to have run a Hollywood Studio.
David retired from film production in 1998 and now focuses on his work in education. He has been a governor and visiting Lecturer at the London School of Economics and Political Science since 1997 having been a visiting Lecturer at the University of Bristol for fourteen years prior to that. He holds twenty four honorary degrees, and is Chancellor of the University of Sunderland. He served as a Governor and later Chairman of the National Film and Television School from 1974 to 1996.
He is Chairman of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, The National Museum of Photography, Film and Television and is a member of the Engineering Council Senate. He is a Trustee of BAFTA, the Science Museum and the Royal Academy of Arts.
David Puttnam was awarded a CBE in 1982, received a Knighthood in 1995 and was appointed to the House of Lords in 1997. At the moment Lord Puttnam is the chairman of the Joint Committee on the Draft Communications Bill of the English Parliament.
Editor-in-chief Risto Uimonen is known as an active writer and social commentator. After being for a long time an editorial writer for Helsingin Sanomat, the biggest daily in Finland, Mr. Uimonen moved to the post of the editor-in-chief of the Kaleva newspaper, published in Oulu in Northern Finland. Risto Uimonen has published many books on Finnish politics and media.
Radio reporter Eeva Mäntymäki has in her licentiate’s thesis in 2001 studied the turning point of the public service radio from the listeners’ point of view. At moment Ms. Mäntymaki studies the consumers’ relations to public service broadcasting on a wider basis. She works as a reporter at the local Kuhmo station of the regional Kainuu Radio of the Finnish Broadcasting Company.
The conference is organised by the Union of Radio and Television Journalists in Finland as part of the International Federation of Journalists’ Campaign Public Service Broadcasting for All and with the support of the Finnish Broadcasting Company.
