IFJ & SAMSN: Digital Security Campaign

The IFJ along with SAMSN have launched the Digital Security for South Asia's Journalists campaign, running from April 7 to May 15, 2016. The regional campaign is the culmination of the digital campaign works we have done in 2015 under the UNDEF project, bringing together SAMSN members and the media community across South Asia to campaign on digital security.  IFJ and SAMSN will work together with SAMSN members to launch and run the campaign through four key stages:

1.       Digital Security Practice Survey for Journalists: From April 7 to 15, the IFJ and SAMSN survey for journalists on digital security practice will be available online for you to complete and share with your members and networks. We are calling on all SAMSN members to get at least 50 to 100 responses to the survey. The aim of the survey is to understand the digital security of journalists in South Asia and in your specific country, so we are calling on SAMSN members to ensure the representation from your country equally covers gender, media type and region. 2.       Digital Campaign phase: From April 17 to May 15, the IFJ and SAMSN will be taking the campaign online, using social media platforms to promote the messages of digital security. This is your opportunity to make your voice heard in the push for better digital security. The IFJ will send all SAMSN members a social media campaign kit with suggested tweets, Facebook posts, graphics, infographics and statistics to share online and get the conversation started. We will be calling on all SAMSN members to remain active throughout the campaign, posting daily across social media channels.

3.       'Tell You Experience': From April 17 to May 15, the IFJ and SAMSN we will sharing stories about digital security and personal experiences from across the region. This is your opportunity to tell us your stories and share them, sharing knowledge and experiences with the network. So if you have a story, please send them to [email protected]. We also ask SAMSN members to share this message and encourage members and other people in your networks to share their stories with us.   Journalists and media workers can also share their stories online using the #IFJDigitalSecurity and #LetsBeSecure

4.       Launch of Survey report: In mid-May, the IFJ and SAMSN will launch the survey findings in a report, illustrating the state of digital security for journalists in South Asia. The report will be a precursor for the release of a South Asia Freedom of Expression report that will be released in late May. We are encouraging all SAMSN members to organise small events to launch the report and disseminate the findings. If you are interested or would like more information please contact [email protected]
