Abduwali Ali Hassan

The 25-year old journalist was shot to death by unknown gunmen in the Afgoye town of the Lower Shabelle Region, 30 kilometers south of Mogadishu as he was returning from an assignment.

Ali Hassan was critically injured and was taken to hospital where he died later of his injuries sustained in the attack. He had been a contributor for Mogadishu-based Kulmiye Radio and the London-based Somali channel Universal TV.

According to journalists' testimonies collected by the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), an IFJ affiliate, Ali Hassan had received threatening calls from a hidden telephone number. They also believe he had been targeted because of his recent reporting about the local security situation and the recent mobility and manoeuvres of the Somali National Army in the lower Shabelle Region.
