900 on Strike As Journalists' Union Rejects Deal in Denmark

From today 900 members of the Danish Union of Journalists working at the country's major public broadcaster Danmarks Radio are on strike. The strike follows a resounding vote by two thirds of the members against a compromise deal negotiated between the union and management.

The massive vote to reject the offer is due to the movement towards a new and more individual based salary-system - combined with only few improvements of the status of the shop stewards. Although union negotiaters improved the compromise during long nights of negotiations, it was not enough to convince the workforce.
