Newsletter: Meet our staff: Alex, one of the voices of Sydney

From her office in Sydney, Alex Hearne lavishes attention on the IFJ Asia-Pacific affiliates. Responsible for communication and security in the region, the 26 year old chose the IFJ as her first job, following a work placement in 2014. “After studying arts and Indonesian, I completed my university studies with a master’s in international studies, she describes. I worked for six weeks here as a trainee and…” And Alex returned permanently to a desk at the IFJ. Since then, everyone agrees that she is truly committed: “Alex works hard for the IFJ,” adds Jane Worthington, the director of programmes at the office. “She is very meticulous in her work.” When she is not on the 1st floor of the building of our affiliate, the MEAA, which is hosting the IFJ Asia Pacific Office, she likes to travel and discover the world – she speaks fluent Indonesian, which can make relations simpler with certain members… Even if she has never worked as a journalist or been a trade union activist, she is discovering the rudiments on a daily basis.
