IFJ Voice, July 2018- A word from our president

In order to defend journalists’ rights, the IFJ cannot act alone – it requires harnessing the strength of all our affiliated unions and associations, the very organisations fighting day in day out to support journalists and journalism.

Join forces In order to defend journalists’ rights, the IFJ cannot act alone – it requires harnessing the strength of all our affiliated unions and associations, the very organisations fighting day in day out to support journalists and journalism. We witnessed a clear example of that strength in unity when the IFJ’s Executive Committee met in Taiwan. We were able both to appreciate the efforts our Taiwanese affiliate makes every day to help journalists deal with the myriad problems they face but also were able to bring the collective strength of the voice of the world’s journalists to support the association’s struggle. In order to be the most effective, the defence of journalists rights requires ever stronger union – between unions and their paying members, between journalists organisations at a national level, between unions on different continents as well as between the IFJ and its continental and regional organisations. As we begin the countdown towards next year’s Congress in Tunis, unity must be out watchword! Philippe Leruth IFJ President
