IFJ Supports Brussels Demonstration for Media Freedom in Pakistan

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today renewed its call for Pakistan to end its restrictions and allow all media to operate freely as it supported a demonstration in Brussels against media restrictions including the shut down of GEO TV News network.

This afternoon a demonstration against Musharraf’s media policy and particularly the shutdown of GEO TV was held in front of the European Commission.

The IFJ and its member unions have created a global campaign for media freedom in Pakistan. An IFJ mission last week welcomed strengthening solidarity between media owners and working journalists who have united to protest the clampdown on the media since President Pervez Musharraf imposed emergency rule on 3 November.
