BRUSSELS PRESS CONFERENCE TODAY: WAZ and IFJ Sign Historic Global Media Agreement

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its regional group the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) have concluded their first ever cooperation agreement with an international media company. The agreement between IJF/EFJ and Germany’s WAZ Media Group aims at protecting freedom of the press, promoting quality standards in journalism and securing fair working conditions for employees in the media.

“It’s a breakthrough, which paves the way for similar initiatives with other transnational enterprises”, says IFJ Secretary General Aidan White. “Social dialogue in favour of quality in journalism will secure the future for all media.”

The agreement is supported by Deutscher Journalistenverband and the ver.di trade union as well as by IFJ/EFJ member organisations in Austria, Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Macedonia and Montenegro, countries where the WAZ Group is a major publisher of print periodicals.
