Asia Journalists Call on Government of India to Constitute Wage Board for Indian Journalists

Journalists' leaders representing 14 countries from the Asia-Pacific region meeting in Colombo from 21-23 August 2004:

BELIEVING that professional and quality journalism demands journalists be properly remunerated for their work; and
RECOGNISING that journalists in India have not had a wage increase through the wage board system for many years;

SUPPORTS the calls of the IFJ affiliates in India for a revision of wages for journalists and other media workers; and

DEMANDS that the Government of India constitute wage boards for the media industry and in turn upwardly revise wages for Indian journalists.
