2004 EFJ Resolution on Rights of Atypical Workers

Tabled by NUJ Ireland

This General Meeting notes the ongoing difficulties faced by journalists in some European states, including Ireland, arising from the use of competition law to undermine the rights of freelance/atypical workers.

Atypical workers are entitled to social protection and to collective representation by trade unions. Restrictions on the publication of advice such as Fees Guides or collective agreements governing such workers are unacceptable and undermine the rights of a large number of journalists.

This GM instructs the incoming Steering Committee to work with constituent organisations to campaign for greater social protection for atypical workers.
