The body of 49-year-old online journalist was found in the trunk of his own car in the town of Zacatepec of central Morelos state, according to local media reports. Pérez was a veteran local journalist who worked for two news organisations, Ecos de Guerrero and Agencia Informativa Guerrero. He later founded an online news website, Guerrero Al Instante, focusing police and court matters, reports added. Reporters Without Borders quoted Pérez’s friends as saying that the journalist had ceased signing his articles, out of fear for his safety.
