Elias Daei

The 33-year-old correspondent of US-funded radioRadio Liberty (RFE / RL) was killed in an explosion in the Helmand province. According to Afghan Independent Journalists Association (AIJA), the journalist was killed in an explosive device attached to his car exploded

AFP quoted Human Rights Watch as saying that Daei had been "explicitly" warned not to report on the Taliban's operations in the province or that the group was "violating the agreement" it signed with Washington in February, that paved the way for withdrawing American forces from Afghanistan.  "The Taliban had searched his house, questioned him about his movements, and asked local residents to report on his behaviour," journalists who knew Dayee told HRW, the AFP quoted statement added.
He was the second victim of a booby-trapped car blast in a week following a similar incident which claimed the life of former TOLO TV presenter Yama Siawash in the Makrorayan-e-Char area of Kabul.
