Comrade Stanis Nkundiye who was a long serving leader of the Union of Journalists in Central Africa (USYPAC) waged a relentless fight against oppression and exploitation of journalists in his country, Central Africa region and Africa.

Having served twice as the Treasurer of FAJ and a founding member of this continental federation, Comrade Nkundiye will always be remembered as a stickler for the rules and always subjected himself to democratic centralism. He was a forthright and principled character who never minced his words.

Comrade Nkundiye, who passed away today at his home in Kinshasa at the age of 60, was part of a generation of a militant and sophisticated cadre of leadership of journalists in Africa, who were tirelessly working hard to take the journalists in Africa to the next level and were ready to navigate the indeterminate future facing the media professionals.

“The African journalists’ movement remains deeply indebted to comrade Stanis Nkundiye for his immense contribution to the noble struggle of African journalists. This federation has taken a big hit and the global journalists’ fraternity has lost one of its passionate and fearless defenders and advocates” said Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed, President of FAJ.

“We shall honour his memory by working hard to build a united, growing, militant, independent and fighting federation that will continue to be a major factor in the political and economic life of journalists in Africa,” underlined FAJ President who added “We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and his friends”.
