Union Renewal for Stronger Media

Supporting Asia-Pacific journalist organisations to recruit organise and campaign for journalists' rights in the new digital economy. The IFJ’s global digital strategy is helping build unions through tailored institutional strengthening programs, while also providing scope for unions to create national approaches and responses to media development, research, representation and recruitment.

Key Activities:

  • National pilot programs for digital recruitment strategies
  • Union small grants program for skill strengthening and local research
  • Regional solidarity through sub-regional and regional strategy meetings in South Asia (Nepal) and South East Asia (Thailand)
  • Campaigns and advocacy – A needs-based approach to journalist safety and working conditions as well as press freedom issues for areas of critical concern for media in countries undergoing democratic or political transition including Cambodia and Malaysia
  • Safety and Impunity research and advocacy in South East Asia – a sub-regional program for Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Timor Leste
