IFJ holds ToT on safety in Cairo

Eight participants from Egypt, Mauritanian, Iraq, Sudan and Yemen are taking part in the IFJ new round of train the trainer (ToT) sessions on safety in Cairo, Egypt. The ToT is organized in collaboration with the Egyptian Syndicate of journalists and is taking place at their premises from the 28th of September to the 12th of October 2015. Led by international trainer David Bevan the TOT aims to develop the training skills of journalists and other media professionals to qualify as safety trainers and provide support and assistance to other journalists and media workers from their country and/or region. This tot comes as a response from the IFJ and journalists’ unions in the region to the unfolding safety crisis in the Arab World, were statistics in the last 4 years showed that it is the worst region in the world for working journalists. IFJ started this program in 2011, where 13 journalists took part in the first training held in June 2011 in Rabat, Morocco. The first ToT graduates have trained up to 1500 journalists across the region in the past 4 years. This program is supported by the Norwegian ministry of foreign affairs.
