To
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran
Sadeq Larijani, Head of the Judiciary of Iran
Brussels 14th December
2010
Your
Excellencies,
I write
on behalf of the Gender Council of the global federation, the International
Federation of Journalists (IFJ), to express our concern at the recent jailing
of journalist Nazanin Khosrovani, arrested by your security forces on November
2nd.
Press reports
have highlighted the circumstances of her arrest and, so far, neither the
reasons nor charges have been provided by your authorities.
The IFJ
is extremely alarmed of news that, in recent days, her family were told that
she was banned from having visitors without any explanation.
According
to her friends, Nazanin had been unemployed as a journalist since the 2009
election, and she has never been involved in any political activity.
In the
absence of any charges, I appeal to you on behalf of journalists worldwide to
release Nazanin forthwith. Her prolonged detention in jail and uncertainty
about the reasons of her arrest is having a terrible impact on her health and
on her family.
Sincerely,
Mindy
