In 2016, the China Press Freedom Project documents for the first time a list of journalists, media workers and bloggers jailed or detained in China. China is often referred to as the biggest jailer of journalists and media workers globally, regularly topping global lists. According to IFJ research, there are 68 journalists, bloggers and media workers currently jailed or detained in China, the oldest case dating back to 2008.
