Trade Union Solidarity

The IFJ is involved through the global trade union movement in the vigorous defence of journalists and their unions through individual representation to governments and authorities whenever there is a violation of press or trade union freedom.

Trade union solidarity is promoted within the federation through exchange of information on events, protests, current disputes and collective bargaining agreements, involving the journalists' trade unions around the world. This information exchange becomes even more important, as global media ownership becomes concentrated on fewer and fewer hands.

The IFJ also has trade union development programmes to help build and sustain strong and independent unions of journalists.
